PISCATAWAY, N.J., USA,17 August 2009 -- The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) will once again participate in the APWG eCrime Researchers Summit (eCRS) as the conference's sole Technical Sponsor. The eCRS is the world’s only peer-reviewed technical conference dedicated exclusively to electronic crime research.

eCRS will take place from 20 to 21 October 2009 in Tacoma, Wash., USA. The event will include a keynote speech from computer security expert Dr. Gene Spafford, as well as featured sessions on phishing, trojan attacks, business logic attacks, peer-to-peer file-sharing networks, and other aspects on electronic crime.

"IEEE-SA is extremely pleased to return to eCRS as its technical sponsor," said Judith Gorman, Managing Director of IEEE-SA. "As a global organization developing international standards for wireless networking, communications and information assurance, we have a vital role in fostering the technology that will help to protect businesses and consumers from all manner of electronic crime.”

"We have a very strong program planned for this year," said Foy Shiver, APWG Deputy Secretary General and eCRS Director of Development. "It will include papers by researchers from the United States, Europe and Australia on topics such as phishing mitigation, crimeware mechanisms for circumventing forensic examination - and the behavioral aspects of ecrime.”

Andrew L. Fry, Assistant Director of Industry Partners at University of Washington, Tacoma, the eCRS official program partner for 2009, said, "The University of Washington, Tacoma and the Institute of Technology are looking forward to this timely conference.  We have an active and interested group of students in the Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Technology programs who will benefit from attending and volunteering at the event."

All papers presented at eCRS will be published by IEEE and made available through the IEEE Xplore digital library.
