IEEE Computer Society Microprocessor Standards Committee Seeks Chairperson

PISCATAWAY, N.J., USA, 7 October 2008 -- The IEEE Computer Society Microprocessor Standards Committee (MSC) is seeking candidates for the Chairperson and other leadership positions.

Scope of the MSC:
To create, maintain, and encourage the use of IEEE standards for the engineering of computer systems involving microprocessor and floating-point architectures, buses, interconnects, sensors, microprocessor operating system interfaces, real-time operating systems, programming and object languages, data interchange, cryptographic hardware, and computer environmental specifications.

Current standards working groups are listed at:
grouper.ieee.org/groups/msc along with the list of completed projects.  

Requirements for the position are IEEE and SA Membership and a working knowledge of the IEEE standards development process.The Chairperson’s role includes supervision of standards working groups, seeking and encouraging new working groups and overseeing the smooth transition of the groups from the study group stage to working group to a completed standard.  Close interaction with the IEEE-SA New Standards Committee (NesCom) and  the Review Committee (RevCom) is required to support new and developed standards.The chair is expected chair quarterly MSC meetings, to report biannual to the IEEE-CS Standards Activity Board quarterly to MSC TAG to JTC1 working groups and annual financial report to IEEE-SA.
